| Cirrus, though relatively new to the market, has readily established its credentials to deserve being counted amongst some of the finest builders of high-end rigid inflatable craft in the world. The quality of workmanship in these fast yacht tender/sports boats ranks alongside pretty much anything one may care to compare it with - RIB or otherwise. Much of their styling appears more automotive than marine and it is this fresh approach to design which sets the Cirrus RIB apart from many of its contemporaries. Accuracy of moulding and the striking quality of finish to the boat’s surfaces has been achieved by the use of CAD/CAM and state of the art 5-axis milling. Internally, these boats display sound design with as much thought having gone in to the practical aspects of helm position and passenger comfort as I to the aesthetics. An exceptional degree of seating and deck room/foot space has been achieved through making the best use of the boat’s shape and the use of clever converse contours to the base of the seating units. The helm station itself affords all that is necessary whilst at the same offering something particularly original. It works too and ensures that this typically bulky item is as unobtrusive as possible. All boats in the range offer plenty of dry stowage and are equally suited to a day’s sport boating or the transportation of people from ship to shore. In other words, the Cirrus is a surprisingly versatile craft. This latter factor, however, is largely attributable to the vessel’s hull, a full 23 degrees deep-vee design by John Moxham. John is widely respected for his work with amongst others, Avon, and has done a very sound job in producing a hull that is equally capable offshore as it is performing the duties of a super yacht tender. For this reason I consider the Cirrus to have a very valid place within the wider RIB market for it is totally unlike any of the so called ‘bluewater’ RIBs currently on the market with their lightweight interiors and shallow vee, hard riding hulls. Don’t be fooled by this boat’s level of styling - the Cirrus is a proper RIB and is meant to be used. A third model has just been added to the 2004 6.5m and 7.5m stable and comes in the form of a baby 4.9m. This small RIB has many of the essential components of its bigger brothers, and could well be the type of product that would prove particularly suited to the US. You can check the Cirrus out yourself at RIBEX 2004 - the show that provides the public with their very first opportunity to sea trial this interesting and most welcome addition to the international RIB market. |
