| This particular model, after its many years in production, continues to be one of Delta’s best selling, small commercially orientated RIBs. A multifunctional craft capable of all manner of duties, this proven ‘workhorse’ makes an ideal rapid response craft, FRC, dive boat or exploration vessel. At the dawn of the RIB’s popularisation as a stand-alone cruising vessel, the Delta RIB, and in particular the 6.5m model, became a regular choice among many early RIB ‘pioneers’ for its suitability for offshore ‘adventure’ use. This was essentially for two key reasons. Firstly, Delta were and still are, known for building strong boats - as one would expect from a range originally developed for the professional market. In other words, when push came to shove in heavy conditions, they rarely broke. Secondly, with their high, non-stuffing bows and self-draining decks, these boats were suited to being used (and sometimes even abused!) in the real environment and in all weathers. Sometimes criticised by some for not being the best looking boat on the market, others would argue that the Delta’s appeal actually lies in her seagoing appearance. The 6.5X, like the other craft in the range, has a serious look about her - a look that’s meant for business - which is exactly what she is intended for. It would be unlikely for anyone, whether commercial or private, to choose a Delta unless they were serious about their boating. Like many companies in the RIB business, Delta takes prides in its ability to customise. In Delta’s case, the company have become widely respected for the level and variety of customisation they are able to deliver - especially when servicing orders from the professional arena. All Delta’s craft, including the 6.5X, are hand-built using traditional methods and the company remains a private family run business even after having moved to very much larger premises. Delta’s design and build expertise has grown to the level at which the company now take multiple orders for RIBs in excess of 20 metres. Perhaps it would be more accurate to describe vessels of this size as ships rather than merely boats, but such is the degree of advancement in the RIB world. In conclusion, it’s worth pointing out that Charles Dyas, the founder of the company came to building RIBs through his love of diving. Realising the exciting potential these craft had to offer, he soon became involved in RIB construction before subsequently becoming hooked on offshore RIB exploration. In other words, the man who remains at the helm of today’s company has first hand experience of what is required from a RIB of this type - and it shows in the end product of which the 6.5x is a good example. |
