A SOLAS approved Zodiac Pro 500 RIB, valued at approx £7,500, along with three Suzuki outboard engines, valued at approximately £12,750, are the subject of a generous donation by Southern Shipwrights Ltd (SSL) to the Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) charity.
SSL’s link with the charitable trust is through SSL chairman, Chris Jeffries, a longterm supporter of the trust and its principles ever since he took a ‘holiday’ as crew member onboard the Trust’s 59m/197ft Brigantine Stavros S.Niarchos, back in 2007.
A personal donation by Chris has been used by TSYT to purchase equipment for their fleet, with SSL helping to maximise the charity’s budget by providing all four items at cost.
The brand new Zodiac Pro 500 Rib plus console and jockey seat will replace an 11 year old rescue tender onboard Stavros S.Niarchos. Experts at SSL’s dinghy and outboard centre at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne, put together a package specifically tailored to meet the charity’s requirements on size, weight, safety, performance and SOLAS compliance.
On 9th November the Zodiac and associated service and maintenance equipment was handed-over in person by SSL Managing Director, Will Jeffries, to Captain Darren Naggs and his delighted crew, as the Stavros S.Niarchos was lying in Southampton preparing to set sail with another compliment of sail-training volunteers of all ages.
